Pickleball in Uxbridge, Massachusetts

Uxbridge is still building its municipal pickleball infrastructure. The town approved a high school court project that will create four pickleball courts beside five tennis courts. That project is not yet a dependable public playing venue. Current players get the most reliable court access through the active Upton Pickleball Club nearby. Older residents also have pickleball activity through the Uxbridge Senior Center.

Where to play

Uxbridge High School court project

Uxbridge approved $250,000 for the high school court project in May 2026. The plan reconfigures six existing tennis courts into five tennis courts and four pickleball courts. It will give the town its first substantial municipal pickleball complex. Players should not treat the planned courts as open public inventory until construction and access details are complete.

Upton Pickleball Club

Upton Pickleball Club is the best established option close to Uxbridge. Outdoor play takes place on the Kiwanis Beach tennis courts at 99 Kiwanis Beach Road. A $40 annual adult membership includes scheduled open play and use of Recreation Department nets, paddles, and balls.

The membership covers outdoor sessions throughout the year. Indoor weekend sessions at Upton Town Hall run from November through April and require separate registration after the annual membership is purchased. A beach pass is separate and is only needed for beach use.

Whitin Community Center

Whitin Community Center in nearby Whitinsville offers a competitive coed adult league in its gym from fall through spring. Round robin sessions run Tuesday from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. and Thursday from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Advance registration is required. This program suits experienced players and is not a beginner league.

Lessons and beginner play

Uxbridge does not publish a current townwide beginner lesson series. The Uxbridge Senior Center has active pickleball participation for older adults and has offered multiweek instruction. Its programs are designed for the senior population rather than general public drop in play.

New adult players can enter the Upton Pickleball Club at any experience level. The annual membership supplies paddles, balls, and nets, so a beginner does not need to purchase equipment first. Scheduled sessions create a regular place to learn through play. Players who want a formal private lesson can use the Coaches section.

Open play and organized activity

Upton Pickleball Club provides the most dependable recurring schedule for Uxbridge area players. From August 22 through March 31, outdoor open play runs daily from 8 a.m. to noon. Tuesday and Thursday also have afternoon sessions from 2 to 4 p.m. Outdoor play can end after October 31 because of weather.

Winter indoor play runs Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. from November 1 through April 30. Indoor spaces are purchased separately by current annual members. The broad schedule works for players who want regular partners without organizing every match themselves.

Visiting Uxbridge

Uxbridge does not currently offer a clearly published municipal drop in session for a short term visitor. The high school project will improve local access after it opens. Until then, Upton Pickleball Club is the practical choice for an adult staying long enough to justify the $40 annual membership.

Upton welcomes beginners through experienced players and supplies equipment during scheduled club sessions. The daily morning schedule provides many chances to join games. Winter indoor play requires an additional reservation and fee. A visitor seeking a single structured beginner session can use the Learn to Play clinic at PickleballU in Sturbridge. The clinic includes a rental paddle, court time, and group instruction.
